Commercial railway depot painting in Machynlleth

A commercial painting project at Machynlleth railway maintenance depot, starting with two-metre COVID-19 distancing lines and expanding to wider line painting and company-colour updates.

Commercial railway depot painting in Machynlleth

The original brief: COVID-19 distancing

During the COVID-19 pandemic, I was brought in to paint divider lines at two-metre intervals on the maintenance platforms at Machynlleth. These gave depot staff a clear guide for adequate social distancing, supporting the Welsh legal requirement at the time for businesses to take all reasonable measures to keep people two metres apart at work.

Line markings and colour updates

The wider work included yellow hatched areas around access points and buildings, as well as updates to the depot’s company colours. One progress photograph shows blue paintwork being changed to grey beside a maintenance track.

Working across the depot

The line painting covered indoor maintenance platforms and outdoor routes. The photo record includes individual divider lines, larger hatched sections and the stencil used for the lettering.

Further work at Holyhead

Following the work at Machynlleth, I was also sent to Holyhead depot to carry out similar work there.

The result

The finished two-metre markings provided a clear visual guide for COVID-19 social distancing on the platforms. The commercial work grew to include further line painting and company-colour updates across the depot, followed by similar work at Holyhead.
